Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial World Series since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a four games to three victory in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I want up in that situation besides George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their work in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.

Toronto won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
