The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl harboring several human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing could be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
