Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Debuts, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Iconic Releases
Much like the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some well-known personalities, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the previous film.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Worth mentioning, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The film will welcome back of the original voice cast, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 looks set to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles officially announced for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
