Individual Taken into Custody In the Wake of a Minimum of 50 Bullets Discharged from Inner West Sydney Residence

A 60-year-old man has been arrested in the aftermath of a shooting that injured at least one person, numerous people injured and several automobiles targeted by gunfire by a shooter within the inner western suburbs of Sydney.

An estimated 100 bullets rang out across a span of two hours between 7.45pm and 9.30pm on Sunday night in Croydon Park.

Authorities Initiate Substantial Action

Thoroughfares were blocked and a lockdown was imposed on the area as police launched a major operation in response to information a suspect was haphazardly discharging a weapon at motorists, encompassing law enforcement automobiles, driving on the Georges River Road route.

Specialist police teams were deployed to detain the male suspect aged 60 from a unit above a business along the busy road.

Police Leadership Provide An Account

Acting Supt Stephen Parry stated to journalists late Sunday the exact number was uncertain regarding the total number of rounds discharged “though estimates suggest in the range of 50 to 100 bullets that have been discharged”.

One of the officers shot at had just graduated from the academy for five weeks, Lanyon mentioned.

A motive for the shooting was yet to be determined but Lanyon said there was no known link to acts of terrorism or organized crime.

Harm and Aftermath

Ambulance crews cared for a group of 16 persons on site for minor injuries.

Several individuals were taken to hospital subsequent to emergency medical attention.

A taxi driver who is in his 50s was critically but steadily positioned with wounds to his neck and head.

Fortune played a role that additional individuals were not injured, the acting assistant commissioner Trent King commented.

“This is unheard of in Sydney to experience an incident of this nature, involving such an extensive volume of gunfire,” he told ABC radio during Monday.
“We are extremely lucky that further destruction was avoided and certainly more injuries or indeed fatalities.”

“It escaped my notice there was actually a hole on the roof as well. The odor of gunpowder reached me, however, I presumed since it was the night of the NRL grand final, perhaps individuals were lighting firecrackers or the like.”
