Football Recap: Broncos Stage Fourth-Quarter Comeback Versus Philadelphia, Baltimore Suffer Record Home Loss
Broncos Overcome Eagles in Thrilling Finish
Bo Nix connected with a short touchdown pass and JK Dobbins contributed another ground touchdown in the final period as the Broncos erased a two-touchdown disadvantage to deliver the Eagles their initial defeat of the season. Denver's defense deflected the Eagles quarterback's final attempt on the game's concluding play to send the reigning title holders to just their second loss in their previous 22 outings. The Broncos (three wins and two losses) got fortunate in their rally when the Eagles had a crucial play nullified on a formation infraction whistled against star ball carrier Barkley.
Texans Dominate Depleted Ravens in Record Win
Houston's quarterback passed for 244 yards and four scoring throws, and Houston (2-3) strolled to a decisive victory over an injury-ravaged Ravens squad, equaling both the biggest away victory in the franchise's record books and the worst home defeat in Ravens' history. Baltimore (one win and four losses) were without star signal-caller Jackson, and that was far from their sole issue. Key defenders Kyle Hamilton, Roquan Smith and Marlon Humphrey all missed the game, and the Ravens already were weakened on that side of the ball because of a neck problem that concluded Nnamdi Madubuike's campaign. The Ravens were also without Pro Bowl blocker Ricard and tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Colts Rout Raiders in One-Sided Affair
Indianapolis' running back ran for three rushing scores and a two-point conversion, and the quarterback threw two touchdown passes as the Indianapolis Colts routed the Raiders. This decisive advantage was Indianapolis' biggest since the 2013 season. Jones finished 20 of 29 for 212 yards and moved to 4-1 as the starting quarterback this season, exceeding his total wins over the previous two years with the Giants. Taylor carried 17 times for 66 rushing yards and caught three receptions for 20 yards. The Colts converted a blocked punt, two interceptions and a turnover on downs into TDs. Las Vegas fell to four wins and one loss.
Dallas Cowboys 37-22 New York Jets
Dallas' quarterback threw four scoring throws, leading the Cowboys to an easy victory over the Jets. The Cowboys put points on the board on two long marches in the second quarter, despite being without key linemen on the blocking unit. Javonte Williams ran for 135 yards and a score and also caught a TD pass. The Cowboys, now two wins, two losses, and a tie, bounced back from a 40-40 tie against Green Bay last week. New York remain winless at zero wins and five losses in Aaron Glenn's inaugural year as the leader.
Vikings Edge Browns in London Thriller
Vikings receiver Addison caught a 12-yard scoring reception from the quarterback with under half a minute left to secure the Vikings a win over the Cleveland Browns at the UK venue. This methodical march gave the Vikings (three wins and two losses) a crucial victory on their historic international road trip, which began with a 24-21 loss to the Steelers in Dublin last week. This also marred Dillon Gabriel's debut as starter, as the Browns first-year player positioned his squad (1-4) in contention by throwing two scores. Fellow rookie Quinshon Judkins gained 110 rushing yards on 23 carries. The quarterback overcame an arm issue that temporarily sent him to the locker room and led two touchdown marches in the latter half.
Panthers Stage Epic Comeback Against Dolphins
Carolina's quarterback threw for two scores and Rico Dowdle ran for 206 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers came back against the Miami Dolphins in their home stadium. Young's quick throw to rookie tight end Mitchell Evans with 1:59 to go gave the Panthers (2-3) the lead for good as they equaled the largest comeback to win a game in franchise history by overcoming a 17-point hole. The QB had a poor start, but he finished 19-for-30 passing for 198 yards with one pick. Dowdle, replacing the sidelined starter, did his work on the ground on 23 attempts, falling just short shy of the single-game franchise rushing record. The Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa threw 27 passes out of 36 for 256 yards with three scores and receiver Waddle accumulated 110 yards through the air on six receptions and scored a touchdown, but the Miami (one win and four losses) fell to zero wins and three losses in road games.
Saints Secure First Win Under New Coach
New Orleans' quarterback threw an 87-yard score to Rashid Shaheed, safety Jordan Howden returned a fumble 86 yards for a score, and New Orleans beat the turnover-prone New York Giants for the Saints' first victory under first-year head coach Moore. The QB secured his maiden win in 11 career starts, throwing for 225 yards without a turnover. Giants rookie QB Dart, who won his debut last week, threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns, but also turned the ball over three times. The Giants gave up possession five times in all, none more costly than when Bryan Bresee stripped ball carrier Skattebo, resulting in Howden's touchdown. Each squad are one win and four losses.
