Eyewitness Details Moment That 'Deranged Individual' Attacked Northern Manchester Jewish House of Worship

A man involved in fortifying a Jewish temple in the region of Manchester has shared how a deadly assault occurred, causing the demise of two Jewish individuals.

Early Thursday, Alan Levy was inside the local synagogue when a perpetrator rammed a car into and attacked with a knife worshippers assembling for a ceremony to commemorate a significant religious event.

The witness noted that the 'deranged' attacker attempted to bash down the entryways of the building, and he recalled locking down the building with fellow worshippers.

The victims, in their 50s and 60s died in the attack on Thursday, while several more were hurt while helping to safeguard worshippers.

Witness Account of the Incident

Mr Levy, who serves as a leader at the synagogue, explained securing the entrances and said that the assailant employed blades and outdoor items to try to get in.

I witnessed a large, menacing figure shoulder charge against the entrance, attempting to break them open holding a sharp weapon," he shared with reporters.

The sole statement I heard from him was 'this is what you're going to get for killing our children'.

Just those words I heard him say. We remained behind the doors and we were repeating 'we are not letting this man in'.

"He was a crazed, violent individual."

Ceremony Held for Deceased

The comments were made as many individuals attended the funeral service for one of the victims.

Relatives, congregants from the local Jewish community along with a religious leader, and members of the wider Jewish community came together in the local area to honor the deceased.

Attendees filled the cemetery forecourt, with many standing outside the chapel in the inclement weather, listening to the service and eulogy over audio systems.

In a message released on Friday, the victim's loved ones stated that he would "do anything to help anyone".

Authorities Inquiry and Arrests

Greater Manchester Police indicated that the individual may have been affected by police gunfire as they shot the attacker shortly after the emergency call.

He, who was described by his loved ones as a "hero", was attending a ceremony at the synagogue when the violence unfolded.

He had been a cherished sibling, loving uncle to his family members and a dear extended family member," his relatives added.

Relatives are devastated by the tragic, sudden death of a kind and humble individual.

"His final act showed immense heroism and he will forever be remembered for his brave deed."

A number of apprehensions have been made in regarding the violence, and officials confirmed that a group remained in custody on that time.

Each of them were apprehended for terrorism-related activities.

The individuals detained are several men, aged 30 and 32 and apprehended nearby; a 61-year-old woman detained locally; and a woman in her 40s apprehended elsewhere.

An 18-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were released with no further action, officials reported on Saturday.
