A Upcoming 007 Game First Light Encounters a Delay, Scheduled for Release in May 2026.
IO Interactive
The release of the long-awaited James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, has been pushed back to 27 May 2026.
First planned for a 27 March release, the title will now hit shelves approximately 60 days past its initial date.
A Long-Awaited Comeback for 007
This project represents the inaugural video game centered on the iconic British spy following 2012's 007 Legends, concluding a considerable hiatus for the character in the gaming world.
"007 First Light is fully playable from the first mission to the last," stated developer IO Interactive. "Yet, we are using this additional period to further polish and make certain it lives up to the high expectations of our players."
Development Details and Story Components
The game is in production in association with Delphi Interactive, a studio also behind another major title.
Patrick Gibson, recognized from Dexter: Original Sin, will portray a 26-year-old James Bond in what is described as a reimagined origin story.
The narrative will follow Bond as he joins into MI6 and earns his coveted 00 status, offering a self-contained tale unconnected to the films or books.
Star-Studded Cast and Mechanics Glimpses
Enhancing the star power, US singer Lenny Kravitz will perform as the title's primary antagonist.
Early preview videos have shown some similarities with IO Interactive's popular Hitman franchise, while also highlighting the classic gadgets and action-packed sequences expected from Bond.
Nonetheless, some feedback on these trailers voiced apprehensions regarding graphical fidelity, noting performance hiccups and the use of motion blur.
A Major Project
IO Interactive has called 007 First Light its "biggest project to date."
"We believe this sets 007 First Light up for long-term success," the studio added. "We are grateful for the patience and ongoing enthusiasm we've received."
